When it comes to joining in with national celebrations, Ruddington has once again shown it’s up there with the best!
The many events organised over the long ‘Queen’s Platinum Jubilee’ weekend by Ruddington Parish Council alongside contributions from our village museums, community groups, organisations, and individuals, commemorating Her Majesty’s amazing seventy years on the throne will long be remembered by the thousands of villagers and visitors who joined in.
Highlights have included ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ latest spectacular Yarn Bomb (with only a temporary glitch when Harry, William and Sophie went ‘walkabout’ for a while), red white & blue decorations and union jacks around the village, a massive knitted banner created in association with The Framework Knitters Museum, bespoke graffiti art, dedicated displays, our own Ruddington beacon lighting ceremony, dining, dancing & ‘live music, a community picnic, church services, children’s crafts and entertainment, an extended June Village Market and the planting of more trees to add to ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’.

Add to the above some residents organising their own Platinum Jubilee street parties through the weekend – including celebrations along Rufford Road, Westerham Road, Brookside Gardens and Barton Close – there was plenty to do!
It’s also not too late to enjoy the Ruddington Village Museum exhibition “70 Years of Change” around the windows of Ruddington Library. This continues until Thursday 30th June and there is a ‘Queries and Feedback Book’ which can be accessed inside the library during usual opening hours.
NEXT UP this summer… other big village events include Ruddington Beer Festival this weekend, James Peacock School ‘Summer Fun Fest’ on June 18th, RVCP’s Makers’ Night on June 24th and Ruddington Open Gardens at the start of July.
